You can't fight their infantry head on at all since your starting infantry is trash, but you can use your skirmishers, stalk, and vanguard deployment to beat them with guerilla tactics. Carthage has lots of good heavy spearmen, and decent javelin skirmishers, which makes fighting them a ton of fun. You start out on Sardinia with Carthage, and they will probably DoW on turn 1. So the Iolei have a really unique playstyle in battle, especially at the beginning of the game. Later on you get higher quality infantry like the Nuragic Shield Wall (great defensive unit), and the (Heavy) Nuragic Runners, which are great because they literally punch their enemies with armored fists, and have very high melee attack and charge bonus (in fact they have a better charge bonus than the Iolean cavalry) Not only that, all of your units have Stalk, which makes it easier to do small ambushes. Your infantry starts out pretty bad, but your skirmishers are wonderful-high range archers, high damage javelins. I've been playing as the Iolei, and they're really fun.Īll of their units have Vanguard Deployment, so your forces are super flexible. It's the one of the most fun campaigns I've had in TW recently!Įdit: 10/10, ***** Faction Would recommend because their cavalry is great, their aesthetic is cool and unique, they have a good starting position which is isolated and defensive yet also has many expansion opportunities and still subject external interactions which allows for plenty of enjoyable war and battle. I've now started a military campaign against the Insubres and Ligures, but an Illyrian invasion fleet appeared off the Venetian coast and a Helvetii tribal migration has occurred in the Insubres land near my armies. It has been constant warfare with all the Gauls in Northern Italy, which has created an awesome gameplay story since I was able to rally a coalition of the remaining Etruscans and northern Italic peoples against the Senones and ultimately defeat them and split the reconquered lands amongst us all. I'm about 40 turns into a Veneti campaign and it's been one awesome experiece so far. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
